As if Valentine’s season hasn’t been bad enough, the Red Sox skipper was injured while riding a bike in New York City.  According to the New York Times, Valentine was riding and reading a text message from star second basemen Dustin Pedroia when he suddenly came up on the backs of the two French tourists carrying umbrellas in Central Park.  Valentine swerved to miss the Frenchies and ran his bicycle down an embankment.

Ironically, Pedroia’s message was that he would be able to play the Red Sox season finale against the Yankees despite having a broken left ring finger.

“I shouldn’t have been reading a text while I was riding,” Valentine told The New York Times.

Well, now Valentine has some injuries of his own to deal with, but mostly just bumps and bruises.  The bruises are significantly less than the ones Valentine will receive from the hostile Boston media after a last place season and a 69-93 record.
